END OF YEAR NETWORKING
What a great night on 6 December to celebrate the end of the year with drinks and nibblies at Como B&B. Many thanks to hosts, Helen and Don Barrett for providing the venue for a wonderful evening, enjoyed by all who attended.
The tyranny of distance made it impossible for many members to attend, however, the evening provided an opportunity to meet other accommodation providers and catch up with old friends - lots of fun, laughter and talking from all who attended. We were especially pleased to welcome some newcomers to this area of tourism.
REFLECTIONS ON THE FIRST HALF OF THIS FINANCIAL YEAR
At the end of the year, it is always time to reflect on what has been achieved and where are we heading. Achievements include:
• Members Directory (brochure) produced and printed
• Members Directory (multiple copies) mailed to all Visitor Centres in WA
• Members Directory (10 per property) mailed to all members for display and promotion
• Kings Park Festival – 4 days – Members Directory handed out to visitors from BBFAA stall
• Professional Development ‘Just Where Are Those Potential Guests Coming From’ presented by Bhavia Bhagat from Tourism Western Australia, followed by a discussion on Marketing Mediums, Online Reviews, Phone versus Online Bookings, facilitated by S Stein
• AGM and networking
• ‘A Guide to Establishing and Managing an Accommodation Business – WA Edition’ was completed in April 2010 was promoted for sale at the UWA Extension Course, ‘Starting a BB’, and at SBDC, and is available for purchase via the website: www.bbfaa.com.au
• BBFAA National Gift Voucher flyers were mailed to all members for display and promotion
• Ongoing mentoring of new members or potential members
• Meetings to determine strategic directions, and to work towards the goals established in the Business and Marketing Plan
• Networking e.g. End of Year drinks/nibblies
NATIONAL GIFT VOUCHERS
Gift vouchers are available for purchase online: www.bbfaa.com.au or by telephone: 1300 664 707. Please promote to your guests and friends.
The vouchers can be redeemed from any BBFAA property across Australia, and hence are a wonderful gift for a range of occasions e.g. Christmas, thank-you, birthday, wedding, engagement, retirement, staff incentive, corporate clients, and interstate family and friends.
When redeeming gift vouchers, check that they are valid (valid for 12 months) and then mail the originals to: PO Box 422, Eltham, Victoria 3095. Proceeds for the gift voucher will be deposited to your bank account, less the administration fee of 10% (plus GST).
This scheme means that recipients of the gift voucher will use it at a BBFAA property and hence it is in the interest of all members to promote it. BBFAA Gift Vouchers have introduced over $220,000 worth of business to members around Australia and many of these guests would have tried a B&B for the first time.
WA COMMITTEE
The committee will enjoy a break over December and January and commence meetings again in February, as we work towards achieving goals set for the remainder of this financial year.
Meetings will be predominantly held via teleconferencing every 2 months which allows members from any region in WA to participate on the committee. We are keen to have the support of other members on the committee, particularly from country or Farmstay properties.
Please contact any of the committee members for further information or to express interest in joining the committee.
